The structure of the site reflects the fact that it is presenting the work of a group of independent researchers. Our aim is to develop a whole new kind of economics, that has the planet at its heart and shares the planet's resources fairly between its people. We report our progress in different areas and you can find it on our individual pages, listed on the Researchers page. The rest of this page gives you details of some of the subjects covered, with links.
Gaian Economics takes a position that is broadly opposed to the present form of globalised, competitive capitalism, although only some of the researchers take an explicitly anti-capitalist position. Two of the contributors to this site--Molly Scott Cato and Frances Hutchinson--have identified the system of money creation as central to the problems of the globalised economy.
Turning around the economic system that is destroying the planet is a big problem and so we have to tussle with some big subjects. The following are explored elsewhere on the site: war, trade, work, progress, and ecofeminism. For links to other organisations and individuals working in related areas, including the New Economics Foundation, the Green Party, James Robertson, and Richard Douthwaite, visit our links page.
