Ramòn Fernàndez Duràn is an Spanish intellectual based in
Madrid. His writings seek to uncover the power relations that dominate
contemporary capitalism. He is a member of the environmental activist
organisation Ecologistas en Acciòn. He has been involved in campaigns against
the WTO and the World Bank. His book Capitalismo (Financiero) Global y Guerra
Permanente: El Dòlar, Wall Street y la Guerra Contra Irak (Global Finance
Capitalism and Permanent War: The Dollar, Wall Street and the War Against Iraq)
traces the links between the Iraq war and the global financial system. It is

Ramon's present work focuses on the development of the European Union towards a superstate that may challenge the hegemonic domination of the US. His preliminary paper on this subject, Mars vs. Venus, or Dollar vs. Euro? The European Constitution and the EU's Arduous Road to Becoming a Super-Power and Backing up the Euro is available for download here (venusmars.pdf: 292KB). It was published in Spanish in the journal Polìtica y Sociedad. His book on this subject will be published by Virus in 2005.
